Biography

Paul Young

Lead Vocals and Percussion

Paul was active in the music industry from the 1960s onwards. He first made his mark as a member of Toggery Five, who narrowly missed out on success despite a string of excellent singles in the mid-1960s. In the 1970s, Paul and his colleague from the Toggery days, Frank Renshaw, made their mark as “Young and Renshaw” releasing one album on Bell in the UK and three singles. Next, Roger Greenaway attempted to help Paul as a solo act releasing singles as “Paul Young” long before the other Paul Young began his solo career.

Aside from his recording with Sad Café (more details elsewhere on this site), Paul recorded with Ian Devaney (husband of Lisa Stansfield) as Devaney Young, again as a solo act as YPY (Young Paul Young!) and with the hugely successful Mike and the Mechanics with whom he shared the lead vocals with Paul Carrack.

Paul Young of Sad Café

Sadly, Paul passed away suddenly on the 15th of July, 2000.

Shortly before his passing he had laid down lead vocals for a new project with Alistair Gordon. The remaining members of the band worked to complete these songs, which were released as Chronicles in March 2011.
